I paint the female nude simply because there is no other natural subject in this world that stimulates me more as an artist. There is a vibrant energy that we hold underneath our skin and it is my goal to portray that energy in every brushstroke. Our bodies give life, comfort, sexual urges and warmth. As an artist, I have an urge to portray all that goes on at and underneath the surface. Acrylic paint is ideal for my work because it dries quickly, which forces me to paint with urgency in my brushstrokes. When I make an application on the canvas I only have so much time to make it look natural. Because of this my hand tends to move quickly. I feel that this helps me depict this aura of energy with in my figures. It is also important for my brushstrokes to give a sense of movement. Although my work consists of women in still poses, I do not want my canvas to look too still or stagnant. I want people to feel as if they are having and intimate "one on one" moment with my figures and I try to achieve that by how I lay out my composition. A majority of the canvas is of the nude, which mainly consists of warm colors. I tend to fill the negative space with dark or lifeless colors and this causes the different shades of the skin to protrude out more dramatically. This gives the viewer the impression that they are interacting with my paintings. My paintings are of women who pose and let the observer know that they want to be observed. They shamelessly let us look at their every curve and crevice and want to be admired. I aim to capture that split second moment where they feel that they are the only woman in the world and I want the observer to feel that they are contributing to that moment.
